What is trail running?

Trail running is a sport combining running and hiking in wilderness. It is generally done over longer distances and involves a significant amount of ascent. This is the main difference with cross country running, which is done over shorter distances.

This is a recently fashionable sport. Most of the famous races over the globe were founded in the beginning of the 21st century. The UTMB, "Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc", is one of the oldest in Europe. It is run over a length of 171km for 10,000 meters of ascent. A short video shows the best moments of the 2018 edition.
